The theatrical version of "Crusher Joe" was released on March 12, 1983 through the Shochiku Fuji network. It was the directorial debut of Yasuhiko Yoshikazu, who also worked on the original illustrations, and he took on five roles: director, character designer, scriptwriter, storyboard artist, and animation director.
