The Goonies
is a 1985 American adventure comedy film co-produced and directed by Richard Donner, written by Chris Columbus, and with a story by executive producer Steven Spielberg. In the film, a group of kids living in the "Goon Docks" neighborhood of Astoria, Oregon try to save their home from foreclosure. In the process, they discover an old treasure map and set off on an adventure to unearth the long-lost fortune of legendary 17th-century pirate One-Eyed Willie. During their adventure, they are pursued by a family of criminals who are after the treasure.

Produced by Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment, the film was released theatrically in the United States on June 7, 1985 by Warner Bros. The film grossed $124 million worldwide on a budget of $19 million and has since become a cult film. In 2017, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as a work of "cultural, historical, or aesthetic significance."
